Eternal Spring brings the splendour and magnificence of the lush Renaissance garden back to life. Artists, more than anyone else, have always tried to capture nature. In the lush gardens depicted in these works, winter never comes. With their richly coloured textile fibres, the imposing tapestries bring garden scenes to life, as though spring might last forever. For the first time in five centuries, the exhibition reunites a remarkable series of tapestries from the collection of Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle.

Curated by Carlotta Striolo, Eternal Spring once again brings some of the finest art of the Northern Renaissance to the museum. The museum's redesigned gardens complete this celebration of nature as a living work of art.

Programme

Playful Sensory Trail

Art is not only there to be seen, but also heard, felt and smelled. This playful sensory trail guides visitors through the exhibition and stimulates all the senses.

Catalogue

In this book, experts unravel, layer by layer, the symbolic meaning of the richly decorated 16th-century tapestries featured in the exhibition. Although the exhibition is over, the book is still available in the museum shop.

Combined Guided Tour

This tour combines a visit to the exhibition with a guided tour of the Koninklijke Manufactuur De Wit, an international authority in the conservation and restoration of historic tapestries. Participants discover the fascinating world of tapestry-making and admire the remarkable collection of tapestries.

Winter Workshops

During the winter workshops, families take inspiration from the flowering natural world and experiment with linocut printmaking in the museum workshop.

Study Day

The museum organises a study day in collaboration with CODART for a specialist group of researchers. Lectures are given by Krista De Jonge, Vincent Vanhamme, Tine Meganck and curator Carlotta Striolo.

Eternal Spring at the Museum

The spirit of eternal spring extends beyond the exhibition galleries. Temporary displays in both the gardens and the permanent exhibitions create links with the exhibition.

Creative Workshops

The museum organises workshops for adults on grafting historic fruit trees, making jam and chutney, and felting wool. Participants go home with new knowledge and skills, or something they have made themselves.

Audio Guide

An audio guide is included as standard with a visit to Eternal Spring. Alongside the usual historical background, it takes visitors on an imagined walk through the garden. The listener's gaze moves from elegant marble columns to romantic pergolas.
