  • Can I buy tickets at the museum?

    Tickets can be purchased at reception on the day of your visit. Please note that your preferred time slot may already be fully booked. To avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend booking your ticket online beforehand. 

  • Do I have to book in advance?

  • I have tickets for a specific time slot, but I’ll arrive earlier or later than planned. Is that a problem?

    No, that’s not usually a problem. Arrived at a busy time? We may ask you to wait a few minutes or suggest visiting another part of the museum first. 

  • Can I cancel or change my tickets?

    Have you purchased a ticket online, but are no longer able to attend? Tickets cannot be changed or refunded. You are, of course, welcome to give or sell your ticket to someone else. 

  • Do I have to pay extra to visit the temporary exhibition?

    No. Your ticket allows you to visit both the permanent exhibition and the temporary exhibition. 

  • Do I have to pay extra for the audio guide?

    No, it is included in the admission price. 

  • Do I need a ticket to visit the museum gardens?

    No. The museum gardens are open free of charge throughout the year, from 10 am to 5 pm. 

  • Do I need to print my tickets?

    There is no need to print your online ticket. We can scan the e-ticket on your smartphone. Entitled to a discount? Or do you hold a Museum Pass? Be sure to bring it with you to reception. 

  • I’m having trouble buying tickets online. What should I do?

    If you are unable to complete your booking through the ticket shop , try the following: 

    • Check your internet connection and refresh the web page
    • Try a different web browser
    • Restart your computer and try again 
       
  • I received my confirmation email, but the tickets are missing. What should I do?

    That certainly shouldn't happen… Please contact us at  hvb@mechelen.be or through our contact form. We’ll be happy to help. 

  • Payment has been taken, but I haven’t received my tickets. What should I do?

    Don't worry. Before contacting us, please check the following: 

    • Have the tickets gone into your spam or junk mail folder?
    • Was your email address entered correctly when you placed the order? If so, please contact us, and we’ll rectify the issue and resend the tickets.
    • It may simply be taking longer than usual for the email to arrive. Check your email again after a while to see if the tickets have arrived in the meantime.

  • Can I visit with a Museum Pass?

    A Museum Pass gives you free entry to Museum Hof van Busleyden. Please remember to reserve a free ticket and timeslot through the ticket shop. 

  • Can I buy a Museum Pass at the museum?

    Yes, Museum Passes are available from reception. They can be used immediately after purchase. 

  • Are there discounts for senior citizens or groups?

    We do not offer senior discounts. Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more visitors.

  • Can I visit free of charge with a Teacher's Card or Press Card?

    Admission is free for teachers working in Belgium and accredited journalists. Please indicate this when making your online booking, and remember to bring your teacher’s card or press card with you on the day of your visit.  

    The following cards and passes qualify for free admission: Friends of Museum Hof van Busleyden, Experience Pass, Klasse Teacher Card, Carte Prof, Iedereen verdient vakantie, Groep Mechelen staff, Mechelen City Guides, Museum Hof van Busleyden Guides, ICOM, Companion of a visitor with a disability 
     

Vraag Practical Information About Your Visit 

  • How long should I allow for my visit to Museum Hof van Busleyden?

    As a guide, allow around 1 hour to visit the permanent exhibition and around 1 hour for the temporary exhibition. Of course, every visit is different. You may wish to take a break in the coffee-bar, for example. Please bear this in mind when choosing a time slot. You’re welcome to stay as long as you like. The museum closes at 5 pm. 

  • How do I get to the museum? Where can I park?

    Google Maps will help you find the best route whether you are on foot, bicycle, train, bus or car. The museum address is Museum Hof van Busleyden, Frederik de Merodestraat 65, 2800 Mechelen. Secure bicycle parking is available beside the museum’s main entrance, on Sint-Janstraat.

    Paid parking applies throughout the surrounding area. The nearest underground car parks are: Parking Indigo Mechelen Veemarkt, Veemarkt 19 (5 minutes on foot) and Parking Indigo Mechelen Tinel, Edgard Tinellaan 5 (4 minutes on foot).

  • What are the museum’s opening hours?

    The museum is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Opening days and hours may vary during school holidays. Please check the latest opening times below.

  • Can I leave the museum and return later the same day?

    Yes. You will receive a sticker at reception when you arrive. Wear it somewhere visible, and you can leave and re-enter the museum throughout the day. 

  • Is there a cloakroom in the museum?

    Yes. Lockers are available on level -1 where you can safely store coats, handbags or rucksacks during your visit. The lockers are operated using a token, which you'll receive from reception. 

  • Is there somewhere safe to leave my walking frame, suitcase, folding bike, etc.?

    Certainly. Our reception team will be happy to store these items behind the reception desk for you. Please note that the museum cannot accept responsibility for loss or theft. 

  • Can I bring my dog?

    Dogs are welcome in the museum gardens and coffee-bar, provided they are kept on a lead. Pets are not permitted inside the museum galleries, even if carried in a bag or pushchair. Registered assistance dogs and guide dogs are welcome throughout the museum.

  • Can I visit the coffee-bar and museum shop without buying a ticket?

    Yes, The coffee-bar can be accessed directly from the museum gardens. You're also welcome to browse the museum shop without purchasing an admission ticket. It is also worth remembering that we do have an online shop. 

  • Is Wi-Fi available in the museum?

    Yes. Connect to HvB-Bezoekers during your visit. Sharing photos or videos on social media? We'd love to see them. Tag us using – #hofvanbusleyden and @hofvanbusleyden. 

  • May I take photographs in the museum?

    Photography and filming for personal use is welcome, provided you do not use flash or a tripod. A small number of works cannot be photographed or filmed. These are clearly marked with a No Photography/Filming symbol. Please be considerate of other visitors and help us protect the artworks at all times.

    Images may only be used for personal, non-commercial purposes. Sharing on social media? Don’t forget to tag us (#hofvanbusleyden and @hofvanbusleyden).

    If you are a professional who would like to request a high-resolution image of one of our museum artworks, you can do so by means of our image request form.

    Journalists, photographers and content creators wishing to photograph or film for editorial or commercial purposes should request a press visit in advance. 
     

  • I lost something during my visit. What should I do?

    Please ask at reception, where all lost property is collected. Already home? Simply complete our contact form.

  • Is the museum suitable for children? And as of what age?

    Absolutely! Children aged 6 and over can discover the world of the Burgundians through stories, and interactive activities designed especially for them. Find out more here.  

  • What is there for children to see and do?

    Plenty! Families can enjoy a dedicated Family Trail as well as a Treasure Hunt in the museum gardens. 

  • Can I breastfeed in the museum? Where can I change my baby?

    Of course. You are welcome to breastfeed anywhere in the museum. Almost every gallery has chairs, benches or stools where you can sit comfortably. Baby-changing facilities are available in the toilets on level -1. 

  • Is there somewhere safe to leave my pushchair?

    Pushchairs are welcome throughout the museum. Prefer not to take it with you? You can leave it safely behind the counter with the reception team. 

  • Can I eat my own picnic in the museum?

    Food and drink are not permitted inside the museum. Drinks and snacks are available from the coffee-bar. You're welcome to enjoy your own picnic in the museum gardens. 

Kind/JongereGuided Tours & Groups 

  • How many people make up a group?

    Visiting the museum with friends, colleagues or family? Take a look at our range of guided group tours. You can choose the size of your group, with a maximum of 15 participants per guide. Groups of 10 or more also benefit from discounted admission. If you have a Museum Pass admission remains free, even when visiting in a group. 

  • Can we continue exploring the museum after our guided tour?

    Once your guided tour has finished, you're welcome to continue exploring the museum at your own pace. 

  • Can I change the date of my booked group visit?

    After booking your group visit through our ticket shop, you’ll receive booking confirmation from our partner, Visit Mechelen, along with the payment details. Payment must be received no later than 7 days before your visit. You can amend or cancel your booking free of charge until that point. After that, changes and cancellations are no longer possible.

  • Is the museum fully accessible?

    Yes. The museum is fully wheelchair and electric-wheelchair accessible. A paved path from Sint-Janstraat leads directly to the museum entrance. All floors are accessible by lift. The museum shop is also easily accessible if your mobility is reduced.  
    For the coffee-bar, we recommend entering through the museum itself on the ground floor. The entrances from the street and the upper floor of the coffee-bar are not wheelchair accessible. 

  • I have limited mobility. Are wheelchairs or folding stools available?

    Will you require a wheelchair for your visit? Two wheelchairs are available to borrow from reception. Please mention this when booking, so we can reserve one for you. Most galleries include chairs, benches or stools where you can take a break. Lightweight folding stools are also available to borrow free of charge.  

  • I am sensitive to noise and busy environments. Is this museum suitable for me?

    We offer noise-reducing headphones, available free of charge from reception during every visit. Prefer an especially calm museum experience? We highly recommend our Quiet Visit (every first Saturday of the month, from 10 am to 1 pm). 

  • Are there special tickets for visitors with disabilities? Does my companion require a ticket too?

    Yes. Visitors with a disability pay a reduced admission price of 4 euros. One accompanying visitor is admitted free of charge with a companion ticket.
