Practical information for an enjoyable visit 

Being able to find your way independently, move around the museum comfortably and enjoy your visit at your own pace matters to us. That's why we've made the museum as accessible as possible for wheelchair users, older visitors, families with young children and anyone who is deaf, hard of hearing, blind or partially sighted.

Accessibility for everyone

  • Visitors with Reduced Mobility

    • The museum is fully accessible for wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs.  
    • All floors can be reached by lift.
    • Seating is available in most galleries.
    • 20 folding chairs are available free of charge at reception.
    • Two wheelchairs can be borrowed free of charge at reception. Please mention this when booking so we can reserve one for you.
    • The coffee-bar is accessible via the museum entrance on the ground floor.
    • The street entrance and the upper floor of the coffee-bar are not wheelchair accessible.
    • On-street parking is available on Frederik de Merodestraat. Holders of a disabled parking permit may park free of charge and without time limit in public parking spaces throughout Mechelen.
    • Underground parking is available at Parking Indigo Mechelen Veemarkt, Veemarkt 19 and Parking Indigo Mechelen Tinel, Edgard Tinellaan 5. 
       
  • Visitors Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

    • A hearing loop with microphone is available at reception.
    • Noise-reducing headphones are available at reception free of charge for use with the audio guide.
    • All videos with spoken dialogue include subtitles.
    • All gallery texts are available in Dutch, French and English. Printed visitor guides are available in German, Spanish and Italian. 
       
  • Visitors Who Are Blind or Partially Sighted

    • Assistance and guide dogs are welcome throughout the museum, provided they remain on a lead. There's no need to notify us in advance if you are bringing an assistance dog.
    • A free audioguide in English, Dutch, French or Ukrainian is included in your ticket.
    • At the present time, the museum does not have a standard offering for visually impaired visitors. If you would like to contact the museum, please get in touch to discuss a tailored guided visit.  
       
  • Visitors Sensitive to Noise or Stimuli

    • Noise-reducing headphones are available free of charge at reception.
    • You can also visit during our Quiet Visit, held on the first Saturday of every month, from 10 am to 1 pm. 
       
  • Visitors Accompanying a Person with a Disability

    • Companions of visitors with disabilities receive free admission. Please select ‘Companion of a visitor with a disability’ when making your booking.
    • Visitors with disabilities pay the reduced admission price of 4 euros. Please select ‘visitor with a disability’ when making your booking. 
       
  • Families with Children

    • The museum is fully accessible for pushchairs.
    • All floors can be reached by lift.
    • Baby changing facilities are available in the toilets on level -1.
    • Breastfeeding is welcome throughout the museum.
    • Don't miss our Family Trail.
    • Need to let off a little energy before or after your visit? The museum garden is perfect for running around and playing.
