Step into the walled gardens of Museum Hof van Busleyden. Can you smell the sage and fennel? Are the old roses flowering against the wall? How high has the wisteria climbed around the columns?
The museum has no fewer than three walled gardens. There’s always something in bloom. Five hundred years ago, Hiëronymus van Busleyden built his impressive home here, complete with its own garden. Explore this green oasis with a guide and discover the history and symbolism of this special place.
What can you expect?
During the tour you will:
- explore the garden's design as a contemporary interpretation of a Renaissance garden
- discover the inspiration behind the gardens: from the Mechelen botanist Rembert Dodoens to the Enclosed Gardens
- wander through this living book of herbs and plants
- experience the different character of each of the three walled gardens
This is an interactive tour, with time to look closely at the gardens and uncover their hidden stories. Your guide will adapt the pace to suit your group, with plenty of time for questions.
Practical Information
- Price of the guided tour: 90 euros. Admission to the museum is not included in this tour.
- Maximum of 15 participants per guide.
- Duration: 1 hour
- Available to book from 1 April to 31 October, every day of the week. Please note that the museum and coffee-bar are closed on Monday and Tuesday.
- This tour takes place outdoors. Therefore, please dress for the weather.

Can I move my booked tour to another date?
After booking, you’ll receive confirmation from Visit Mechelen with all the practical details and payment information. Payment is required no later than 7 days before your visit. You can amend or cancel your booking free of charge until that point. After that, changes and cancellations are no longer possible.
